The Magic Behind Resin Art: My Creative Process

There's something truly magical about watching liquid resin transform into a shimmering, glass-like artwork. Every piece I create follows a careful process, but there's always room for the unexpected — and that's what makes resin art so exciting.

Step 1: Inspiration & Planning

Before I even open a bottle of resin, I spend time with my inspiration. Sometimes it's a photograph of the ocean at sunrise, the veins inside a geode, or simply a colour combination that won't leave my mind.

I sketch loose compositions and select my colour palette — this is where the vision starts to take shape. I choose my pigments, metallic powders, and any natural elements (like gold leaf or dried flowers) that will become part of the piece.

Step 2: Preparing the Canvas

Every surface gets carefully prepared. I work on wood panels, canvas boards, and even custom furniture pieces. The surface must be level, clean, and sealed — because resin is unforgiving when it comes to imperfections.

Step 3: The Pour

This is where the magic happens. I mix the resin with precision — the ratio of resin to hardener must be exact. Then I add pigments, one colour at a time, creating individual cups of coloured resin.

The pour itself is intuitive. I work quickly because resin has a limited working time. I use techniques like:

Dirty pour: Layering colours in one cup and pouring them together
Swirl technique: Using a heat gun to create organic movement
Drop method: Placing individual drops of colour and letting them naturally spread

Step 4: Adding Details

Once the base is poured, I add the finishing touches — gold leaf that catches the light, tiny crystal chips that add texture, or a final layer of transparent resin that creates incredible depth.

Step 5: The Cure

Patience is key. Each piece needs 24–72 hours to fully cure. During this time, I keep the workspace dust-free and warm. It's the hardest part — waiting to see the final result!

The Result

After curing, each piece has a beautiful, glass-like finish that's smooth to the touch. The depth and dimension in resin art is something you truly have to see in person — photographs barely capture the way light dances through the layers.

Every artwork is unique. Even if I tried to recreate the same piece twice, the resin would have other plans. And honestly? That's exactly what I love about it.
